Once upon a time some engineers who decided to change the course of history. Thinking of a way to make more efficient and easier communication, they had the idea to create a system that was able to make the communication between wireless phones. The idea was not bad, but the technology of the time did not help much. It all started in 1947, but the ideas were not far beyond the theory and little practice.
The real history of the mobile phone, also known as mobile phone, started in 1973, when the first call from a mobile phone to a landline was made. It was from April 1973 that all theories proved that the phone worked perfectly, and the cellular network suggested in 1947 was designed correctly. This was a time not well known, but it certainly was a fact marked forever and that totally changed the history of the world.
The first devices
Several manufacturers have made tests between 1947 and 1973, however the first company that showed a device running was Motorola. The unit’s name was DynaTAC and was not sold to the public (it was only a prototype). The first model that was commercially released in the US (some other countries had received equipment from other brands) was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, that even in 1983, that is, ten years after the first test.
The first generation of mobile phones began with not so portable, so that most were designed for installation in cars. Most cell phones weighed on average 1 kg (yes, you read that right) and had absurd dimensions of almost 30 centimeters tall. Of course, this was just the beginning, and the trend was the reduction in physical size and higher functions. The price of mobile course was astronomical, because not everyone had a car to be able to carry these “Trambolhos”.
The second generation was coming
Early in the 90s, the manufacturers were ready to launch new handsets with an acceptable size and a weight that does not harm the spine of anyone. The second generation of devices would not only new equipment, but would also join the new communication standards. Three main technologies would prevail this time, they were: TDMA, CDMA and GSM. The second generation of mobile telephony lasted until the turn of the millennium (perhaps a little before or after) and brought several new features, including some that will quote below.
Speak for what? Send a SMS
An indispensable resource for many people is the text message service (SMS). Few people know that the first text message was sent in 1993 by an operator in Finland. Here in Brazil it took a lot to get “all” this technology, after all, the Brazilian operators were still thinking of installing landlines to customers.
Text messages were not a big deal at the time because they were limited to a few characters and did not allow the use of accents and special characters. Also, it was difficult you can use the SMS service, because it was necessary that in addition to your mobile phone, the recipient was compatible with the technology. Cell capable of sending text messages usually came equipped with an alphanumeric keyboard, after all, the machine should comprise letters as well as numbers.
New services to attract customers
Cell brought bells somewhat annoying, but with the advancement of technology the operators and devices, monophonic ringtones and polyphonic, custom began to appear, a factor that made people spend “rivers” of money just to have the song Sweetheart team as a ringtone.
Time to introduce a little color
No doubt it was the best to consumers, but something was still missing for the phone to stay full: were the colors. The devices with monochrome devices simply not conveyed all that our eyes could see. Soon the manufacturers introduced viewers with grayscale feature that allowed distinguish images. Nevertheless, no one was satisfied, because everything seemed very unreal.
When it appeared the first mobile four thousand colors, people thought it was just the world, because it was an amazing technology for such a small device. It did not take long for the appliances earned displays amazing 64,000 colors and soon appeared the displays up to 256,000 colors – real images have appeared and there was no way to realize the lack of colors. Obviously, evolution did not stop and now the devices have 16 million colors, a feature that is essential for high-resolution devices.
multimedia messaging and internet, a breakthrough ..
With the ability to display color images, it did not take anything for that cell to gain the use of multimedia messaging, MMS famous. Multimedia messages, at first, would be useful to send images to other contacts, however, with the evolution of the service, MMS has become a service that supports up sending videos, it’s almost like sending an email.
What everyone wanted, it was finally available on mobile: the internet. Of course, the internet which was accessed through a mobile phone was nothing like the one that people used in computers, however, it should evolve very soon. It was necessary that the gates would create pro-Pippen mobile pages (so-called WAP pages), with reduced content and few details.
2, 5G – The third generation approaches
While the mobile operators were implementing new services, the manufacturers did not stop innovating functions on devices. You just read all the features that mobile 2G had, but still lack know the details that the intermediate generation brought. Although not officially announced, the generation 2, 5G was marked by a significant increase in the speed of internet access, the new features of appliances and of course, to present a new concept mobile users.
The implementation of a camera in a mobile phone is very revolutionary, but today it is difficult to find any device that brings a good quality camera, or at least to get acceptable results in any situation. In fact, it is quite obvious that cell phones do not bring professional cameras, after all, there is no logic in a device whose main function communication, have a better camera than the average.
Manufacturers have been introducing the latest technology in recent devices, so that some models like the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD – check that same text more about this device – are already able to record video with resolution in high definition and with a frame rate acceptable (30 fps). As if not enough this gadget has a technology to detect faces (and smiles), all with the amazing camera of 8 MP (Megapixel) still has flash. He found little? So wait, for soon the Baixaki publish articles of the “New Electronics” series for you to check other features models similar to this Samsung.
MP3 avoids the use of other gadgets
Today it is common to have mobile support playing MP3 files, however, one day it was once a great luxury. There was a time when these files did not exist and device manufacturers have admitted the idea of including support for music playback. Long in coming, but it seems, the MP3 function has become one of the biggest attractions in the cell, simply because the consumer likes to have multiple functions in a single device.
Of course some companies are not restricted to playing MP3 files and so added support playback of other audio files – like ACC and WMA. Of course, it is also impossible not to remember manufacturers that had the luxury to add equalizer, support for playlists, views and amazing ability to transmit audio to two or more headphones.
They have become smart
Currently not speak very mobile, because the subject of time are Smartphones. The smartphone term was adopted by the use of an operating system in mobile phones. Of course this capability is restricted to a small number of devices, however, the trend is that more and more manufacturers to invest in the creation of this cell type.
In addition to the operating system, most smartphones brings wireless (wi-fi), reasonable quality camera (usually the minimum is 2 MP), Bluetooth (some devices are not compatible with AD2P technology), internal memory with plenty of space – or space for external card – enhanced functions (like playing files that require codecs, or compatibility with Microsoft Office documents), support for 3G networks and more.
The operating systems of devices vary widely because each manufacturer puts a different system. The main ones are: Symbian and Windows Mobile (the iPhone uses Mac OS X). If you want to learn more about mobile operating systems, click here to read the article that Baixaki created on the subject.
